Undergraduate Babysitters is a student organization dedicated to providing a support network for UVa students with children and giving undergraduates the opportunity to gain some experience with children. Student-volunteers are matched with student-parents to provide for a regular weekly time when the parent can study, attend class, have some free time, or spend time with friends and family. This is a mutually beneficial arrangement; in its first year (2003-2004) Undergraduate Babysitters enjoyed a great deal of success: student-parents reported lower stress levels and improved performance in their coursework while babysitters felt close to the famillies they served and more connected to the Charlottesville community as a whole.
