The Filmmakers Society, or FMS, is a student-run organization at the University of Virginia that provides resources to student filmmakers that enable them to produce, screen, and distribute their films. At present, FMS considers itself a substitute for the lack of a more developed film production program here at UVA, and it is the underlying goal of FMS to establish such a program through the further development and promotion of general film awareness (at both the commercial and student level) amidst the student body. This goal is fast-approaching with the recent adoption by UVA of a new film production class, MDST 465: Advanced Practicum in Film Production, taught by Oscar-winner Paul Wagner.
